Wavelength and Speed

The displacement of a wave traveling in the positive x-direction isy(x, t) = (3.5 cm) cos(2.7x – 92t), where x is in m and t is in s.

v = 190 m/s

λ= 3.0 m

f = ?

v=fλ

f = v/λ

f= 190/3

= 63.33

Displacement is y(n, t) = (3.5 cm) cos(2.7x – 92t)

x = m

t = s

Angular speed w = 92 rad/s

wave vector k = 2.7 m-1

What is the frequency of this wave?

f= ω/2π

92/2π

= 14.64 Hz

= 15 Hz

What is the wavelength of this wave?

λ = 2π/k

=2.327 m

=2.3 m

What is the speed of this wave?

v= λf

=34.06 m/s

= 34 m/s
