A cable is used to raise a 21 kg urn from an underwater archeological site. There is a 22 N drag force from the water as the urn is raised at a constant speed.
What is the tension of the cable?
Newton’s Second Law: the sum of the forces on an object in a given direction equal the mass of the object times the acceleration of the object in that specific direction.
Tension – (mass x gravity) – Fdrag = 0
Tension = (mass x gravity) + Fdrag
T = (21 x 9.8) + 22
T = 205.8 + 22
t = 227.8
Now round it
Tension = 230 N
