Physics question on power with friction?

Question

“A car of mass 2000kg travels up a slope at 30 degrees at a uniform speed of 15m/s. If the frictional resistance is one-tenth of the weight of the car, at what power is the engine working?”

My current working out is finding out the parallel component of gravity, of 9800N, then adding the friction force onto it. Power = F x V so it should equal 150kW, but the answer states that the power is 176kW. Can someone tell me how that answer was achieved?

Answer ( 1 )

  1. 2000kg*9.8m/s²*15m/s*sin30 = 147kW
    200*9.8*15 = 29.4kW
    147+29.4 = 176.4kW
